Referral Program Terms, Guidelines, and Best Practices

The rules of the Wedy referral program: what counts as a qualified referral, what's not allowed, best practices for sharing your link, and how taxes work.

Overview

The Refer & Earn program works best when everyone plays fair. This article covers what counts as a qualified referral, the sharing practices that aren't allowed, tips for getting the most from your link, and how taxes work. It's a plain-language companion to the full Referral Program Terms, which you accept when you generate your link.

What counts as a qualified referral

You earn a reward for a qualified referral: a person who meets all of the following:

  • New to a paid subscription. They've never held a paid Wedy subscription before. An existing free account is fine.

  • Came through your link. They signed up after clicking your referral link. Your link tracks a click for 30 days, and after signing up they have up to 180 days to subscribe for the referral to still count.

  • Subscribed to a paid plan. A signup alone doesn't earn a reward. They have to become a paying subscriber.

  • Stayed subscribed through the hold. The reward is released only after they've remained subscribed for 100 business days.

What's not allowed

A few practices are off-limits and can cost you your rewards or your place in the program:

  • No self-referrals. You can't refer yourself, your own business, or accounts you control.

  • No fake accounts or any attempt to manufacture referrals.

  • No coupon or deal-aggregator sites. Don't post your link on coupon, promo-code, or deal-listing sites.

  • No spam. Follow anti-spam rules and don't send unsolicited bulk messages.

  • No impersonating Wedy or bidding on Wedy's trademarks in ads, and no false or misleading claims about the product.

  • No gaming attribution. Don't try to artificially manipulate how clicks or signups are credited.

Wedy monitors referral activity for abuse. Referrals tied to prohibited activity can be withheld or reversed, and serious or repeated violations can lead to removal from the program or account suspension.

Best practices for sharing your link

The vendors who earn the most treat their link like a genuine recommendation, not a spammed URL:

  • Lead with the discount. "Get 2 months free on Wedy" earns clicks; a bare link doesn't.

  • Share where you have trust. Your newsletter, your community, DMs with peers, and one-to-one emails convert far better than cold blasts.

  • Be specific about why you use Wedy. A sentence on what Wedy does for your business is more persuasive than a generic pitch.

  • Place it where it keeps working. Your email signature, link-in-bio, and website resources page earn quietly over time.

  • Follow up. Because your link tracks a click for 30 days, a friendly nudge after you first share can turn an interested click into a signup.

Taxes on your reward

Referral rewards are income. You're responsible for any taxes on what you earn, and where required, Wedy issues an IRS Form 1099 for your referral earnings. Keep your business details current so tax forms reach you, and consult a tax professional about your situation. More on payouts is in Getting paid: referral rewards, timing, and payouts.

Frequently asked questions

Can I refer myself or my own second account?

No. Self-referrals, including your own business or accounts you control, aren't allowed and won't earn rewards.

Can I post my referral link on coupon sites?

No. Coupon and deal-aggregator sites are prohibited. Share your link through your own audience and personal channels instead.

What happens if I break the rules?

Referrals linked to prohibited activity can be withheld or reversed, and serious or repeated violations can lead to removal from the program or account suspension.

Does a free signup count as a referral?

Not on its own. A referral only earns a reward once the person subscribes to a paid plan and stays subscribed through the 100-business-day hold.

Will I owe taxes on my rewards?

Referral rewards are income and may be taxable. Wedy issues an IRS Form 1099 where required, and you should consult a tax professional about your situation.

Where can I read the full terms?

You accept the Referral Program Terms when you generate your link. They're linked from the consent line shown right above the Generate referral link button, so you can open them before you agree.
